New U-Pb SHRIMP zircon ages for pre-variscan orthogneisses from Portugal and their bearing on the evolution of the Ossa-Morena tectonic zone Anais da ABC (AABC)
Cordani,Umberto G.; Nutman,Allen P.; Andrade,Antonio S.; Santos,José F.; Azevedo,Maria do Rosário; Mendes,Maria Helena; Pinto,Manuel S..
New SHRIMP U-Pb zircon ages for the Portalegre and Alcáçovas orthogneisses document a complex pre- Variscan history for the Iberian basement in Portugal. The available geochemical and geochronological data for the Alcáçovas orthogneiss (ca. 540 Ma) tend to favor its involvement in a Cadomian orogenic event. This is consistent with the development of an active continental margin setting at the end of the Proterozoic and supports a Gondwanan provenance for the Iberian crust. On the other hand, the Ordovician emplacement age obtained for the magmatic precursors of the Portalegre orthogneisses (497±10 Ma) provides additional evidence for the occurrence of rift-related magmatic activity during the Lower Paleozoic.

Structural and geochronological constraints on the evolution of the Juréia Massif, Registro Domain, State of São Paulo, Brazil Anais da ABC (AABC)
Passarelli,Cláudia R.; Basei,Miguel A.S.; Prazeres-Filho,Hélcio J.; Siga-Jr.,Oswaldo; Szabó,Gergely A.J.; Marco-Neto,Joaquim.
The Juréia Massif, southeastern São Paulo State (Brazil), is part of the Registro Domain, limited to the north by the Cubatão-Itariri Shear System and to the south by the Serrinha Shear Zone. Mostly composed of migmatitic granitegneiss rocks, represents a Paleoproterozoic terrane (1.9-2.2 Ga) strongly deformed during the Neoproterozoic (750-580 Ma). The present tectonic scenario was established at the end of the Neoproterozoic, as a result of collages associated with the formation of Western Gondwana. The Ponta da Juréia, our study area within the Juréia Massif, is constituted by paragneisses (garnet-muscovite-biotite gneisses). The monazite U-Pb age of 750 Ma is related to a main regional metamorphic event that reached the high amphibolite facies,...

Tectonic evolution of the southern margin of the Amazonian craton in the late Mesoproterozoic based on field relationships and zircon U-Pb geochronology Anais da ABC (AABC)
RIZZOTTO,GILMAR J.; HARTMANN,LÉO A.; SANTOS,JOÃO O.S.; MCNAUGHTON,NEAL J..
New U-Pb zircon geochronological data integrated with field relationships and an airborne geophysical survey suggest that the Nova Brasilândia and Aguapeí belts are part of the same monocyclic, metaigneous and metasedimentary belt formed in the late Mesoproterozoic (1150 Ma-1110 Ma). This geological history is very similar to the within-plate origin of the Sunsás belt, in eastern Bolivia. Thus, we propose that the Nova Brasilândia, Aguapeí and Sunsás belts represent a unique geotectonic unit (here termed the Western Amazon belt) that became amalgamated at the end of the Mesoproterozoic and originated through the reactivation of a paleo-suture (Guaporé suture zone) in an intracontinental rift environment. Therefore, its geological history involves a short,...

U-Pb evidence for late Neoarchean crustal reworking in the Southern São Francisco Craton (Minas Gerais, Brazil) Anais da ABC (AABC)
Campos,José C.S.; Carneiro,Maurício A.; Basei,Miguel A.S..
The Passa Tempo Metamorphic Complex is one of several metamorphic complexes that form the Archean sialic crust of the southern São Francisco Craton. It encompasses hypersthene-bearing gneissic rocks, with subordinateNW- or EW-trending mafic-ultramafic bodies and granodioritic to alkali-granitic, weakly foliated, and light-colored granitoids. These granitoids are the product of generalized migmatization that followed granulite-facies metamorphism. To determine the ages of the granulite-facies metamorphism and granitoid genesis, we obtained U-Pb ages on zircon extracted from the mesosome and leucosome of the migmatitic gneisses. For the mesosome, a discordia that intercepts Concordia at 2622 ± 18 Ma is interpreted as a minimum age for granulite-facies...
